RG-15 – Optical Rain Intensity Detector with Pulse Output

The RG-15 is an optical precipitation detector that measures both rainfall intensity and precipitation total using an infrared optical system with no mechanical moving parts. The principle involves analyzing a light beam passing through an optical lens—each raindrop impact is detected and converted into a pulse that can be connected to data loggers or telemetry stations.

  • Optical, non-contact precipitation measurement principle
  • Pulse output emulates a conventional rain gauge
  • No mechanical parts—very low maintenance
  • NPN open-collector output
  • Serial communication for detailed data and configuration
  • Suitable for various meteorological and application systems

Description

The RG-15 detector uses a patented optical design with infrared beams inside a plastic lens, which reduces dirt buildup and eliminates the problems associated with mechanical rain gauges. Thanks to the absence of moving parts, the device is highly reliable and requires no regular maintenance. The pulse output is provided via an NPN open-collector output, which simulates a classic paddle-type rain gauge, and serial communication (e.g., RS232) is also available for more detailed data and configuration.

Applications

  • Monitoring rainfall intensity and amount
  • Weather stations and automated measurements
  • Integration into telemetry systems
  • Hydrological monitoring
  • Applications in agriculture and climatological networks
