Heat flux sensors

HFP01 – Hukseflux Heat Flux Sensor

The HFP01 is the world’s most popular heat flux sensor, used to measure heat flux in soil, building materials, and other objects. This sensor converts thermal energy into electrical voltage using a series of thermocouples housed in a ceramic-plastic body and requires no external power supply. The sensor features a robust design, low intrinsic thermal resistance, and can be connected directly to standard data logging systems or, via an amplifier, to telemetry units.

  • Heat flux measured in W/m²
  • Passive thermocouple output—no external power supply required
  • Low intrinsic thermal resistance – minimal impact on measurements
  • Robust design suitable for long-term installations
  • Resistance to moisture and harsh environments (IP67)
  • High sensitivity and signal stability

Description

The HFP01 measures heat flux through the material in which it is placed or to which it is attached; this value is expressed in W/m².
The output is a small DC voltage proportional to the heat flux—to calculate the actual value, the resulting voltage must be divided by the sensor’s sensitivity, which is specified in the calibration sheet.
This passive sensor requires no power supply of its own, and its polarity determines the direction of the heat flux.

Applications

  • Measurement of heat flux in soil and building structures
  • Assessment of thermal conductivity and thermal properties of structures
  • Energy and environmental monitoring
  • Building physics and U-value/R-value measurements
  • Integration with telemetry and data-logging systems
