Radar rain gauge

WS100 – Radar Rain Gauge

The WS100 is a modern radar rain gauge that uses Doppler radar for non-contact precipitation measurement. Unlike traditional tipping-bucket or weighing rain gauges, it contains no mechanical parts, which significantly reduces maintenance requirements and increases long-term reliability. The sensor measures both instantaneous precipitation intensity and cumulative total and can detect both rain and snowfall. Thanks to its digital output, it is suitable for integration into professional weather stations and telemetry systems.

  • Non-contact radar precipitation measurement
  • Measurement of both precipitation intensity and total precipitation
  • Detection of both rain and snowfall
  • No mechanical parts – low maintenance
  • Digital communication interface
  • Suitable for professional meteorology

Description

The radar measurement principle involves transmitting a microwave signal and analyzing its reflection from falling raindrops or snowflakes. This makes it possible to determine precipitation intensity without the need to collect it in a container.
The absence of moving parts eliminates mechanical wear, contamination issues, or mechanism jams. The WS100 is therefore suitable for long-term installation in harsh conditions.
The sensor’s compact design is intended for outdoor mounting on a mast or weather station structure.

Applications

  • Professional weather stations
  • Hydrological monitoring
  • Road weather monitoring
  • Warning and monitoring systems
  • Integration with telemetry stations
