Rain detector with capacitive output

RDH11 – Rain Sensor with Controlled Heating

The RDH11 detector is designed to detect rain or snowfall using a durable capacitive ceramic sensor. During precipitation, a binary output is activated, which can control, for example, automated systems (roller shutters, awnings) or be processed by a data logger. Thanks to the RS485 interface, the data logger can also record approximate precipitation intensity (0–100%), the sensor’s surface temperature, and the ambient temperature.

  • Capacitive ceramic sensor for reliable detection of rain and snow
  • Binary output (raining / not raining) for controlling equipment or logging
  • Digital RS485 output with approximate precipitation intensity (0–100%)
  • Automatically controlled sensor heating during rain
  • Stainless steel bracket for wall or pole mounting
  • User-configurable parameters via RS485 (Modbus RTU / FINET)

Description

The RDH11 uses a capacitive corundum sensor, which is automatically heated with 10–24 V DC during rain so that its temperature exceeds the ambient temperature by several °C (set to +20 °C by default), thereby minimizing false triggers during light rainfall. The binary output remains active for the duration of the precipitation, and digital communication via RS485 allows for the transmission of approximate precipitation intensity values as well as supplementary data. The detector comes with a stainless steel bracket for wall or pole mounting and can be integrated into the RK6 radiation shield along with other sensors.

Applications

  • Detection of rain or snowfall
  • Activation of the device when rain begins
  • Meteorological monitoring measurements
  • Integration with telemetry stations and data loggers
  • Component of warning systems and remote monitoring
