RDH11-T – Rain detector with controlled heating and sky temperature sensor

The RDH11-T is an enhanced version of the RDH11 detector that, in addition to detecting rain and snowfall, also measures sky temperature. The device uses a capacitive ceramic sensor for reliable precipitation identification and simultaneously provides information important for advanced meteorological applications (e.g., icing risk assessment or cloud monitoring).

The binary output signals the presence of precipitation, while the RS485 interface can be used to transmit approximate precipitation intensity (0–100%), sensor temperature, and sky temperature.

  • Capacitive ceramic sensor for detecting both rain and snow
  • Binary output (open collector) – precipitation indication
  • RS485 digital output (Modbus RTU / FINET)
  • Approximate precipitation intensity: 0–100%
  • Integrated sky temperature measurement
  • Controlled sensor heating during precipitation
  • Rugged design suitable for outdoor installation

Description

The sensor unit is equipped with controlled heating, which activates during precipitation and maintains the sensor surface at approximately 20 °C above the ambient temperature. This minimizes false triggers and ensures that the surface dries quickly after the rain stops.

The integrated sky temperature sensor expands the device’s range of applications, particularly in meteorology, road management, and anti-icing applications. Communication takes place via RS485 (Modbus RTU / FINET), which allows for easy integration into telemetry and control systems.

The detector comes with a stainless steel bracket for mounting on a wall or pole.

Applications

  • Real-time rain and snowfall detection
  • Weather stations and climatological measurements
  • Road and bridge systems (ice prevention)
  • Control of precipitation-dependent technologies
  • Integration into telemetry and warning systems
