External input/output modules for control units

OPTO3 – Pulse Signal Splitter

The OPTO3 galvanically isolated pulse splitter has one pulse input for connecting a signal from a water meter or electric meter sensor and three mutually galvanically isolated pulse outputs.

  • The input pulse signal is split into three mutually isolated outputs: A, B, and C
  • Output A: open-collector (Umax: 28 VDC, Imax: 0.2 A)
  • Output B, Output C: galvanically isolated outputs, bidirectional solid-state relays (Umax: 28 V, Imax: 50 mA, Rmax: 10 Ω)
  • Outputs with short-pulse shaping and extension functions, and input signal ripple suppression
  • Input adjustable for both open-collector sensors and sensors with current/voltage output
  • Selectable supply voltage for the connected sensor (Usupply or 3.3 V)
  • Overvoltage protection for both inputs and outputs
  • Very low quiescent current consumption for battery-powered applications (Iq < 10 μA when the indicator LEDs are off)
  • Supply voltage range: 3.5 to 28 V DC
  • Mounts on a 35 mm DIN rail, width 17.5 mm
  • Compatible with FIEDLER AMS devices

Description

Both an open-collector pulse sensor (OPTO) and a sensor with a mechanical or semiconductor switching contact (REED) can be connected to the INPUT terminal. After adjusting jumper PR2—accessible after removing the upper cover of the device—sensors with current or voltage outputs can also be connected to the INPUT, and these sensors can be powered by the device.
The three pulse outputs, OUT-A, OUT-B, and OUT-C, can be used for process control (metering pumps) or data acquisition (data loggers, telemetry). To suppress ground loops and ensure reliable operation, the pulse outputs OUT-B and OUT-C are galvanically isolated from each other as well as from the power supply voltage of the splitter and the pulse output OUT-A. The OUT-A output is an open-collector output consisting of a switching transistor connected to the negative terminal of the supply voltage. The OUT-B and OUT-C outputs contain a non-polarized semiconductor switching element.

Applications

  • Connecting a signal from a water meter or electricity meter
  • Controlling equipment (dosage pumps) or collecting data (data loggers, telemetry)
