Flow measuring instruments

Q2 – Flow Meter for Open Channels

A four-channel evaluation unit for measuring instantaneous flow rate and total volume flow in open-channel cross-sections. The Q2 flowmeter contains predefined consumption equations that express the relationship between water level and instantaneous flow rate for all common weirs and Parshall flumes. The Q2 unit can also be used as a universal level meter to which a variety of sensors can be connected.

  • Calculation of instantaneous flow rate and total flow volume based on the measured water level
  • 4 inputs for ultrasonic, radar, or strain gauge level sensors (backwater control)
  • Preset discharge equations for Parshall flumes and standard weirs
  • Option to connect a KDO velocity probe (Q2 - KDO)
  • Daily, monthly, and annual flow volumes accessible via the keyboard and display
  • Color touchscreen display, automatically adjusted brightness, intuitive menu, multiple language options
  • Internal GSM/GPRS module (Q2G), data collection and parameter configuration via the Internet
  • Very low power consumption allows the flowmeter to operate continuously even without mains power
  • Powered by a 12 V battery or a 24 VDC (230 VAC) power supply
  • Comprehensive self-diagnostics (voltage, current to sensors, internal humidity, etc.)
  • Durable metal housing with high IP67 protection rating

Description

The Q2 four-channel flowmeter includes inputs for connecting ultrasonic, radar, or strain gauge level sensors and, based on predefined consumption equations (the relationship between water level and instantaneous flow rate for a given measuring flume or weir), it continuously calculates both the instantaneous and cumulative flow rates. The device includes consumption equations for all common types of Parshall or Venturi flumes and for standard weirs. Flow can also be calculated based on a tabulated relationship between water level and flow rate.
The Q2/KDO velocity flowmeter uses a KDO probe, which operates on the Doppler principle of measuring fluid flow velocity, to calculate flow rate.
The measured values are stored in the device’s internal memory and can be transmitted to a database on a server via an internal GPRS module (Q2-G telemetry station).
The robust design of the metal housing with a high IP67 protection rating and a range of self-diagnostic procedures contribute to the flowmeter’s high operational reliability.

Applications

  • Measurement of inflow and outflow at wastewater treatment plants
  • Measurement of outflow from industrial facilities
  • Monitoring of water levels and flow rates in rivers, LVS component
  • Monitoring of runoff rates from watersheds for research and scientific projects
